Community Engagement for Change
We engage with communities to empower them to address the issues affecting them, helping them to explore new perspectives, solutions, ownership, agency and more effective communication models.

We have delivered, as 'Acting for Health', several projects in remote villages in Uganda, Ethiopia & Tanzania affected by chronic infection with the worm-parasite Schistosomiasis / Bilharzia. These projects were commissioned and managed by for the Universities of Glasgow and London, and were evaluated with a published peer-reviewed
paper examining the effectiveness of our work on behaviour change around this disease.

80% of participants & audience reported that they had changed their behaviour
relating to disease transmission as a result of the project.

We are unique in our combined use of two very impactful theatre methodologies: Forum Theatre and
the Science of Acting; with additional methodologies in leadership and communication drawn
mainly from Landmark Education's 'Power to Create' courses and Tony Robbin's work.
Our intention was to empower these communities to explore the infection cycle, the impact as well as
potential solutions to this health crisis. We built confidence, communication and collaboration among the
community participants, which culminated with the performance of a play on market day, and resulted
in people demanding the treatment and change around this chronic disease.

"Storytelling is very much part of the African DNA and Acting for Health
has translated this into the perfect tool-sets to encourage positive behaviour changes
with direct impact on internationally agreed disease elimination goals."
